Location
Canmore is an alpine town located in the province of Alberta, Canada. Canmore is situated in the sprawling Bow Valley corridor, the majestic gateway to the Canadian Rockies. An eclectic array of tempting bistros, casual fine dining establishments, cozy cafes brimming with enthusiastic adventure seekers and bustling shoppes line the welcoming main street.
This friendly village played host to the nordic events during the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. The Canmore Nordic Centre with its incredible cross country skiing trails supplied the world-class venue. The town has a resident population of approximately 12,005 (2008 municipal census). The non-permanent population is about 5,567 or 31.6% (combined population of 17,572). It is located only a few miles east of world-famous Banff National Park, about 81 kilometres (50 mi) west of the City of Calgary (home to the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede) and a short car ride to the enormous natural wilderness area of Kananaskis Country (K-Country) which, like Banff, features an extraordinary array of recreational pursuits.
